Mike Ellsessar was a 16-year old high school athlete and Sutton resident who played three varsity sports: football for Oxford High School, hockey for Northbridge High School and track and field for Sutton High School. He died of sudden cardiac arrest after receiving a blow to the chest during a football game at Quaboag High School in Warren, MA shortly before Thanksgiving in 2010. There was no ambulance at the field and no AED. Sadly CPR alone could not save him.
The Michael T. Ellsessar Memorial Fund will include annual scholarships, running Mike’s Sporting Spirit a gently used sporting goods store located at the First Congregational Church of Sutton, and the purchase of Automated External Defibrillators (AED) for area high schools. This is part of an overall campaign to raise awareness and provide medical training in CPR and use of portable Automated External Defibrillators (AED). The Ellsessar Family & friends along with Rep. Ryan Fattman, Sen. Dick Moore and the students of Sutton, Blackstone – Millville, St. John’s and more worked with legislatures & the American Heart Assoc. to pass “Michael’s Law” a medical emergency response plan for all public schools in MA (signed by the Gov. last spring) Please help us make a difference! Thank You!
